Learning more about the Maori culture and way of life

We spent an afternoon and evening experiencing the Maori way of life, including lunch at the home of a Maori woman who teaches adult literacy and graciously answered our questions. At a community center in Murapara, we tried our hand at several games taught to Maori children in their schools.

Interestingly, those same games were demonstrated at a Maori cultural show and dinner that we attended later that evening. The show included a demonstration of the Haka -- a traditional war dance also seen at New Zealand rugby games.
