Took Air New Zealand from Rotorua to Queenstown on the South Island. We had a short layover at the Christchurch airport. The city of Christchurch was devastated three years ago by two major earthquakes and had suffered flooding damage in the past week. Would have liked to see the once-lovely downtown Christchurch, but time and circumstances did not permit it.
On the way we saw the Southern Alps (yes, they call their mountain range the Alps) from the air. Later we will see the mountains up close and personal.
