Downtown Dunedin - the Scottish influence

European settlers arrived in 1848, mostly from Scotland. The Maoris had arrived as early as 1100 AD.

Statue of the poet Robert Burns (1759-1796). "Robbie" was the uncle of Rev. Thomas Burns, one of the city's founders.
