Hola! I arrived today around 1:45 pm from Lima into Cusco (population 350,000), the ancient Inca capital, around which my next few days will center. An hour later I am settled into my hotel and drinking coca tea, which is the custom when first arriving at high altitudes. Cusco is about 10,000 feet. I am not much of a tea drinker, but I'm willing to try it. Will see if it works.
My hotel can best be described as a courtyard surrounded by individual rooms, which I believe is typical. The owner doesn't speak much English, but there is a young man who works for her and acts as translator.
Now to set off looking around Cusco. After spending most of the day sitting on a plane, it will feel good to be walking around. It is noticeably cooler at this high altitude, which requires a jacket. A bit of a culture shock after the warm, sunny days in the Galapagos.
P.S. On my walk I found the restaurant menu in the picture to be quite interesting. I understand that the Peruvians eat guinea pig, among other delicacies. I have not decided if I will try it.
Do it Cathy! Eat the local fare!!! Touching live once!!!
